“Up the Creek” is a collection of sermons, articles, and columns written mostly for local churches where I’ve served as interim pastor as well as other things I may throw in from time to time. The “In Between” articles have been published in weekly worship bulletins. Some of the “Up the Creek” articles have appeared in church newsletters.
The blog title came about when I retired after 24 years as pastor of the First Baptist Church of Midland, MI. During those years I wrote a weekly “Window on Washington St.” column — my office windows looked out to Washington St. The inspiration for that name came from a pastor with whom I served ‘way back when. He called his column “Third Floor Back” — the location of an office he kept in the big parsonage. Upon retirement I moved to my home office. Its window looks out to a creek, technically a county drain, which defines the rear boundary of our yard. Of course, you may read any connotation you wish into “Up the Creek.”
The image at the top of the page shows the creek which flows out of Lake Marie at the base of 12,000 foot Medicine Bow Peak in southern Wyoming — my home state.
